Abortion: A Gospel Issue?

The Great Commission is not simply a call to save souls, but to make disciples.

Jesus said that part of this job is "teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you."

The Golden Rule belongs at the top of the list of what Jesus commanded! In today's world (where so many Christians abort their babies) a faithful preaching of "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" includes preaching against abortion, and following the example of the Good Shepherd in leaving the 99 to save the 1 (Matthew 18:12-14).

Even when abortion involves a mother and child outside the church, Christ has called us to be salt and light (Matthew 5:13-16), seeking to save both mother and child.

Scriptures and Bible studies on abortion

The Great Commission

"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen

- The Gospel of Matthew 28:19-20 NKJV

The Great Commandment

"Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?" Jesus said to him, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets."

- The Gospel of Matthew 22:26-30 NKJV

The Golden Rule

"Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets."

- The Gospel of Matthew 7:12 NKJV

"'Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me..'"

- The Gospel of Matthew 25:40

"'Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.'"

- The Gospel of Matthew 25:45
