Commentary by Pastor Al Howard

For years I have read books on Abraham Lincoln. I have always been fascinated by the man and his mission. The debate will go on forever whether he was a Christian or not. From my personal research I believe he was not. However, I do believe he was a moral and deeply honest man who cared very much for the United States. He had insight that was incredible and a determination to keep a country on track that was teeter-tottering on the edge of disaster. I often wonder had he been President today with all of our hi-tech expertise and knowledge how he would lead us in such troubling times.

His convictions and feelings about slavery were varied and at times greatly misunderstood.

A few days ago some of his words jumped off the pages concerning this subject. First here are several of his statements about slavery that caught my attention. “IF SLAVERY IS NOT WRONG, HE WROTE TO THE EDITOR OF A KENTUCKY PAPER IN 1864, “NOTHING IS WRONG.”

lincolnFor Lincoln the institution of slavery violated the basic entitlement in the Declaration of Independence to equality. The issue he said in his famous Peoria speech in 1854 revolved around whether a Negro is not or is a man. “If he is not a man then slavery could be justified.” On the other hand, “If the Negro is a man,” then it was a total affront to the concept of self government to say that he shall not govern himself.

In these comments from President Lincoln I now remove the word slavery and insert the word Abortion. If Abortion is not wrong “Then Nothing Is Wrong!” Is a baby in its mother’s womb a human being or not a human being? If it is not a human being then we can all justify Abortion with no hint of guilt on our consciences and sleep sweetly every night. However, if that which is in the womb is a living human being, a person like all the rest of us, with the exception of being a little smaller, then we may very well be a collision course with the one we call “Lord” who claims that they are all, every one of them, made in His image and are truly His personal property.

If President Abe Lincoln were our President today, would he be a champion of abortion, same sex marriage, and homosexual adoption?  Would he fund Planned Parenthood to the tune of one million dollars a day to kill babies? Planned Parenthood brags that they now provide the same types of birth-control and other services free of charge thanks to Obamacare and the American taxpayers.

As long as I live I will never stop engaging the culture of death that we are surrounded by both in word, action and prayer....

We are in a spiritual battle, at war against the very forces of hell. Before every spiritual breakthrough comes a spiritual battle. The battle is on, and it’s raging over prized territory; the greatest prize of all are human souls and human lives.

I believe it’s time to see the Lord restore what the devil has stolen; it’s time for us to receive double for our trouble. All of us have lost things that are dear to us, opportunities, friends, money, relationships, promotions, and even family members that have walked away from us. But our God can and will restore all that we have lost. (Joel 2:25-26)

25 “So I will restore to you the years that the
swarming locust has eaten,
The crawling locust,
The consuming locust,
And the chewing locust,
My great army which I sent among you.
26 You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied,
And praise the name of the LORD your God,
Who has dealt wondrously with you;
And My people shall never be put to shame.
